There are No Ghosts at the Grand
Inherit a crumbling English hotel and restore it by day while battling ghosts by night. With a sardonic cat, a talking power tool, and a twisting supernatural plot, this is a musical mystery unlike any other. Will you be able to hold it together while everything around you falls apart?
There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is an upcoming narrative-driven spooky, mystery, musical adventure game by UK indie studio Friday Sundae.
The game blends hotel renovation, supernatural mystery, and musical elements. It was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, and is slated for release in late 2026 on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
You play as Chris David, an American who unexpectedly inherits a dilapidated seaside hotel in England (the “Grand”) from his estranged British side of the family. During the day, you focus on renovating the hotel, repairing rooms, repainting, restoring furniture, and uncovering hidden spaces and clues.
At night, supernatural elements come into play. ghosts, mysterious phenomena, and creatures that lurk in the dark. The duality of day/night is a core mechanic. your tools (used for renovation in daytime) morph into ghost-hunting weapons after dark.
The game is also a musical, but not in a traditional stage musical sense. Its tone is closer to a dusty record collection of British ska, punk, or wartime jazz.
Each character you meet has a unique song and style that ties into their story. Dialogue choices may appear within musical duets, where you can choose verses that influence how the narrative branches.
During the day, whimsical, talking power tools are used for renovation like sanding, painting, blasting debris, rearranging furniture, etc. At night, those same tools become supernatural weapons for vacuuming spirits, spraying paint to reveal hidden enemies, hurling furniture at spectres.
The game unfolds across 30 days and 30 nights where you restore the Grand and unravel its mysteries. This includes environmental puzzles, hidden rooms, secret passageways, and narrative clues. You can also explore a surrounding seaside town with side activities such as restoring shops, exploring a cove, or repairing a fishing boat.
